information as it comes in from nonprofit organizations even
though this website is still in the process of development.

HOTLINES for free emergency services are listed in the last
part of this website. Please call the hotlines only if you are in a
desperate situation and need immediate help. Otherwise, use
the contact information given with the individual organization

Provides food, clothing, showers, restrooms, mail and message
services, access to housing and job referrals, medical and
mental health care, crisis intervention and case management.

ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES

This is a 24-hour program to investigate reported at-risk
situations involving the elderly 65 or older and dependent
adults (18-64 who are physically or mentally impaired. Referrals
include physical, sexual or financial abuse, isolation or self-
neglect. Social workers make face-to-face contact with the
abused person and a case plan is developed working with other
agencies such as law enforcement, Department of Mental
health, district attorney.

ANGEL FLIGHT WEST

Offers free air transportation for people going to and from
scheduled medical treatment. The flights are in small, private
airplanes flown by volunteer pilots. The passengers must be
medically stable and ambulatory. No medical attention can be
needed on board the plane. Flight is limited to 1,000 miles.
Angel Flight asks for one week advance notice and takes the
request for a flight from a doctor’s office.

Provides free Housing Counseling and Roommate Matching
Program for low-income older people so that they may enjoy
companionship and be able to make ends meet in affordable,
safe housing. They match seniors with mid-age and younger
people (over 18). Sometimes the healthier person provides
some services for the roommate.

Care is provided in twelve Asian and Pacific Islander languages
as well as English and Spanish. Services include
comprehensive primary health care, pediatric, prenatal, women’
s health, youth, senior health, behavioral health, HIV/AIDs. Also
has school based health centers. No patients will be denied
available services based on their ability to pay.

There are numerous centers located in areas of greatest need.
. Centers provide comprehensive social services as well as
emergency assistance to the homeless and very low income
individuals and families, including food, clothing, temporary
shelter, job training, medical referrals. Safe housing services
are provided to the unemployed, mentally ill and victims of
domestic violence which include medical care and education for
children with a goal to help homeless people return to
independent living.

14 hour toll free national hotline for crisis, pimp and rape
intervention and referrals to other services. Offers shelter and
on-site school for children 11-17 years of age involved in
prostitution or pornography. All services are free and open to
children all across the United States.

This is a homeless shelter for women and children 10 years or
younger living near Compton. Mission is to provide free
emergency shelter, on-site program services and community
resources to poverty level families and help them increase their
economic self-sufficiency and reduce their dependency on
public assistance.

Day Center provides basic emergency services for mentally ill
homeless women, including food, shelter, clothing, showers,
case management, health care. Additional services at other
locations include structured group living preparing residents for
self-sufficiency and job readiness, and a continuum of care for
women who have moved into permanent housing.

Mental health and substance abuse programs include suicide
crisis hotline, help for individuals with long-term psychiatric

Provides permanent safe, supportive housing for homeless
women. Also offers services to homeless women on a drop-in
basis providing meals, clean bathrooms and showers, day
beds, laundry, a fresh change of clothes and a secure mailing

Offers huge variety of free classes for seniors, which include

SOVA operates three food pantry and resource center facilities,
one in Beverly-Fairfax area, one in West Los Angeles and one
in San Fernando Valley. Each offers free groceries and
supportive services to people whose incomes make it difficult to
provide healthy, adequate food for themselves and family
members. Anyone is welcome. Kosher products are available.

Serves homeless children throughout Southern California by
providing one-on-one weekly tutoring from mentors who help
them improve their educational skills kindergarten through 12th
grade. Many homeless children do not attend school and this
program helps fills the gap in their learning opportunities.
School on Wheels offers assistance in entering schools and
locating lost records.

Cisco networking, computer repair, custodial buildings &

enrolled in the high school diploma program, concurrently
enrolled high school students, handicapped adults, public
assistance recipients or people learning English as a second

Programs are for people with cancer (any type, any stage) and
their caregivers, (family members, spouses, friends) who are in
need of psychosocial support. Free programs include support
